The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has retracted its earlier claim of discrepancies in the disbursement of student loans under the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND).
ICPC’s Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, issued the retraction in a revised statement on Thursday, just hours after the commission’s earlier update suggested that discrepancies were already established in the student loan disbursements.
The commission earlier said preliminary findings revealed major gaps in the financial records of the student loan scheme.
It added that while the federal government reportedly released N100 billion, only N28.8 billion was disbursed to students, leaving N71.2 billion unaccounted for.
